The First Few Steam Decks Get Hand Delivered By Valve Chief, Gabe Newell
The Steam Deck is out now and Valve chief Gabe Newell personally hand delivers the first few copies.
The much awaited and anticipated handheld PC gaming unit from Valve finally released yesterday and some of the first few units of the Steam Deck have already reached their rightful owners. However, that is not all.
Because guess who made these deliveries? While you might have already guessed it, seeing how the title of this article is a dead giveaway, let us tell you that this is absolutely no clickbait at all. And indeed it was none other than billionaire and Valve founder, Gabe Newell.
Yes, you read that right! Valve co-founder and President, Gabe Newell went door to door delivering the first few copies of the much awaited handheld PC gaming devices, to their owners. In a video that was shared by Valve, on their YouTube channel (check the video embedded below) and a tweet shared from the official Twitter account for the Steam Deck (check the tweet embedded below, as well) we see just that!

In the fun video that Valve had shared, we see Gabe Newell wandering the neighborhoods of Bellvue, Washington, near the Valve headquarters. He walks up to doors, knocks and delivers the Steam Deck units like it is the most normal thing to do.
“Hi, I’m Gabe Newell. I’m just wandering around your neighborhood”, Newell is heard as saying in the short video shared by Valve. While some of the people on the video were excited, others did now recognize who Newell was while there were even some who appeared to be completely confused.
In his youth, Newell had worked for Western Union and delivered newspapers and telegrams. So he already knows a thing or two about going from door to door, delivering packages, like he was seen doing in the short video that was shared.

One thing that is common about all the interactions that Newell had with the now proud Steam Deck owners, is that he is seen asking all of them, about their honest opinions about the handheld PC gaming device. He even gives out his own work email to anyone who is asking for it. He even says that he reads every email he gets, saying that it is a great way to stay grounded and connected with the fans.
Newell remarks, “I get anywhere from several hundred to several thousand emails a day. I read them all. And that keeps you super grounded. You know what people are actually thinking; what’s actually important to them.” It must also be noted that each one of the Steam Decks that was hand delivered by Newell were autographed by him. This makes these devices some rare and indeed unique collectible items, as well, for their owners.
