Netflix Gaming Gets 2 New Games Added To Its Roster
Netflix Gaming will be bringing back Gameloft’s Asphalt Xtreme, which was officially shutdown this September.
Netflix had, earlier this month, made its latest gaming service available to all its subscribers worldwide, on Android as well as on iOS. Netflix Gaming debuted with four games and now, since the launch of the service, the streaming platform has added two more games to it.
Netflix’s line-up of four games included two games based on its hit show Stranger Things and two casual games Shooting Hoops and Teeter (Up). And now, Netflix is adding two more titles to the list.
The first game will be yet another casual game from Frosty Pop, one of Netflix’s existing gaming partners. The game is titled Bowling Ballers. Just like its predecessors, it is an “endless runner” for bowling and will also include a level based mode. Like all the other games available on Netflix Gaming, this too does not have any in game purchases or ads.
The next game that will be joining the list is the more interesting one. It is a, once fairly popular title, from Gameloft, Asphalt Xtreme, which was officially shutdown in September. The game was the second spinoff game based on Gameloft’s hit action racing titles, the Asphalt series of video games.
Asphalt Xtreme allowed the players to control vehicles that included monster trucks and rally cars as well. It allowed the players to go off the road and even explore the exotic locales. The game, however, was officially shut down on September 30, 2021 and starting from October 1, 2021, it became unavailable on the app stores for download as well. Netflix then licensed the game from Gameloft to add on to its collection of games for Netflix Gaming.

It is common for large video game publishers such as Gameloft to shut down the games that were once quite popular but are no longer generating the revenue that is necessary for sustaining them. However, for a platform such as Netflix which is not looking to profit from these games, directly, these games can be a very good addition.
Netflix Gaming’s “all access gaming subscription” format is not unique and certainly not new. It is already being practiced by several cloud gaming platforms such as Apple’s Apple Arcade, Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming and even Google’s Stadia. However, what sets Netflix Gaming apart from the other services is that Netflix does not need the gaming subscription. In other words, Netflix views the program as a means to sustain as well as grow its base of paying subscribers.
With Netflix Gaming, the streaming giant is merely offering its paying subscribers with an alternate mode of entertainment, in the form of mobile games. This is in addition to the TV shows and movies that it is already offering its subscribers. As Netflix works towards expanding the roster of games that it is offering on its platform, acquiring studios and making new hires for its gaming program, it is indeed interesting to see how the streaming platform will be performing. Bowling Ballers is currently available to users, worldwide. However, Asphalt Xtreme has just launched this week and the platform is working on gradually rolling it out to the users. The game will be rolling out for the users in the United States of America in the upcoming weeks.
