More Arcane To Come Soon As Netflix Gives It’s Nod For Season 2
Riot Games’ Netflix series based on the hit game League of Legends, Arcane is being renewed for the second season.
Streaming giant Netflix did not waste any time in giving a go ahead to Riot Games’ League of Legends series, Arcane. The math was fairly simple. The show is a success. The show had premiered at the number one spot, dethroning the chart topper, Squid Game and has so far garnered (at the time of writing this article), 34.17 million watch hours, in its first week, on the platform. Currently, the show is the second most watched show, in English, on the platform, as per Netflix’s Top 10 website.
Netflix announced its decision to go ahead with a second season of Arcane, via a tweet from the official NetflixGeeked Twitter account. “Ready yourselves, friends. Season 2 of Arcane is now in production”, read the tweet. The show, however, is set for a 2022 release, as of now.
Co-creators of the show, Alex Yee and Christian Linke have told Deadline that, “We’re beyond happy about the positive response to Arcane’s first season and are working hard with the creative wizards at Riot and Fortiche to deliver our second instalment”.

Prior to the premiere of Arcane, show runner and co-creator, Christian Linke told Deadline in an interview that, “I think we’ve always had this dream of creating a bigger experience where it’s not just a show and you drop it, but it’s really something where we can create a conversation piece for people that have loved this IP and the characters for such a long time”.
Arcane marks the entry of Riot Games into television. The show has been greatly praised for its strong storyline, the fine mix between hand drawn animation and CGI and is indeed a fitting origins story for two of Runeterra’s most powerful Champions. The show’s success and its popularity is not really a success. Both Netflix and Riot Games had heavily promoted the show, prior to its premiere and the show’s quality, most definitely, spoke for itself, as well.
The renewal of Arcane for a second season does not necessarily mean that a wave of new shows inspired by video games will be arriving on Netflix, soon. However, the show’s success does indicate that the relatively higher budget video game productions have a healthy shot on the streaming platform. And while nothing is set in stone, as of now, a new video game inspired show or movie, on the streaming platform should not be of much surprise.
Arcane has been developed and produced by Riot Games in partnership with Fortiche Productions. In China, the show premiered on Tencent Video, through the partnership that Riot Games has with Tencent. Globally, the show is available on Netflix.
