EA Pushes For A Connected Battlefield Universe Following Battlefield 2042 Release
Vince Zampella, Respawn’s co-founder has taken over the Battlefield franchise, with plans for an all-in-one universe.
Following the not so smooth launch of Battlefield 2042, Electronic Arts is working towards shaking things up, in its development structure, as it focuses on expanding the franchise.
The recently released military shooter set in the future was massively criticised for many reasons, but especially the lack of features that were present in the previous games. From the sounds of it, it seems that EA is looking towards increasing the reach and the prominence of its Battlefield franchise.
The biggest news perhaps that was announced by Electronic Arts was that the publisher formally announced the creation of a connected Battlefield universe that will, seemingly, span across multiple games and offerings, and will be developed by several studios, spread all across Europe and North America.
In a tweet, Marcus Lehto, game director at EA and the former creative art director for Halo, confirmed that he would be working on a project that is also related to the Battlefield franchise, as well. In this regard, he shared an interview of Vince Zampella, Respawn co-founder, with GameSpot.
A few weeks ago I mentioned that I joined @EA , and now it’s awesome to finally talk about what I’m doing at EA.@Battlefield has long been one of my favorite franchises and I’m super excited to be part of a large and growing team of talented developers and studios! https://t.co/oUu4Ob7NaO

This comes after Oskar Gabrielson, DICE GM announced that he would be leaving the studio to pursue a new endeavour, outside of Electronic Arts. In a separate tweet, Gabrielson states, “DICE has some of the best talent in the industry and the team is in great hands. I’ll be here to support the transition over the next few months before I head out on my new adventure”.
My last decade with the team at @EA_DICE has been nothing short of amazing. There have just been so many great memories working with our teams. But I have now made one of the hardest decisions of my life, to leave DICE and Electronic Arts. pic.twitter.com/NVck19pSkh

The New Shakeup Will See Vince Zampella Taking On As Overall Boss of Battlefield Franchise
Zampella tells GameSpot that both EA as well as the studios “will continue to evolve and grow Battlefield 2042, and we’ll explore new kinds of experiences and business models along the way that we can add to that foundation to provide an awesome array of experiences for our players”.
Speaking of a connected universe experience, Zampella says, “We intend to build a Battlefield universe, one with multiple projects that are interconnected with the player at the center”.
Zampella further states that, “We plan to grow Battlefield and meet players where they play through various experiences and business models, including our upcoming Battlefield Mobile coming in 2022 from Alex Seropian and Industrial Toys”.
Battlefield 2042 developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, released on November 19, 2021. However, since then the game has been riddled with problems and players have been quite vocal about a host of different issues that have been plaguing the game. As of now, DICE has released its biggest update (so far), for the game, addressing some of the initial issues, with plans to address more of them, in the near future.
