British Fashion Council Launch Roblox Fashion Awards, Announces Metaverse Design Winner For 2021 Fashion Awards

British Fashion Council, in partnership with Roblox, announced a new award category, “Fashion Award for Metaverse Design”.

The British Fashion Council have, as a part of the 2021 Fashion Awards, exclusively in partnership with Roblox, announced an entirely new ward category, the Fashion Award for Metaverse Design. The award was announced to recognise a digital designer that “pushes the boundaries and showcases excellence in digital fashion designer within the metaverse”.

Five Roblox creators, were nominated for this award category. These creators were, in turn, chosen by the users of the platform. The nominations for the category included, Sparklings, cSapphire, inkwaves, GENKROCO and Reverse_Polarity. cSapphire, a creator operating an boutique, within the app, has been declared the winner by the British Fashion Council judges’ panel.

Keeping in touch with the virtual nature of the year that has gone by, the award was presented, in a Roblox experience, by the avatar of Alessandro Michele, creative director at Gucci (check picture below).

Players on the platform will also get to explore and enjoy a virtually recreated Royal Albert Hall, and watch the awards ceremony. Speaking about the same, in a statement, Karlie Kloss, entrepreneur, super model and one of the judges on the panel, stated, “This unique metaverse space BFC has created in collaboration with Roblox represents the future of fashion, and it’s been so fun to be a part of such an innovative experience”.

While it might seem like a publicity stunt, this is not the first instance where fashion and gaming got together for a fusion. Earlier, as well, we have seen brands such as Baleciaga collaborating with Fortnite, to create in game outfits. Other such brands to create in game outfits for games are Louis Vuitton, Longchamp and even Burberry.

Gucci too, had earlier collaborated with Roblox in creating a fashion experience that was surreal, for the users of Roblox, in addition to some virtual sneakers. The brand has even partnered with 100 Thieves, an esports organization.
