Netflix continues pushing into the gaming industry with yet another big hire. The streaming giant has hired game industry veteran and former president of games at Scopely, the mobile games publisher, Amir Rahimi.

Rahimi will be taking on the role of the Vice President of Game Studios and will be working under Mike Verdu. Rahimi will be in charge of overseeing all the games that will be made available to all of the subscribers of the streaming platform, all across the world. In a statement, Mike Verdu states, “I am pleased to welcome Amir to Netflix where he will build out our games studio team and content library for Netflix Games”. He further says, “His extensive experience in the games industry will be key as we look to grow our catalog of games for our members around the world to enjoy”.

Speaking about the move, Rahimi says, “I’ve been a longtime admirer of Netflix’s creative culture and willingness to take risks in pursuit of building the world’s greatest entertainment platform”. He also says that, “I’m thrilled to join the company to help create an environment that can attract great game makers, empower them to push the medium forward, and bring their games to a massive, global audience”.

Expressing his thoughts on his current role and his first day at the job, Rahimi shared his thoughts on a post from his LinkedIn profile. It reads, “Today was my first day on the job as head of game studios at Netflix. This position will take me one big step away from the actual game development process (which I love dearly) but it will give me the opportunity to green light games that will put player delight above all else (no more stressing over monetization!) and maybe (hopefully) play a small part in shaping the future of the industry. Super excited to get started!

Additionally, the company has also hired Leanne Lombe. She will be taking on the role of the Head of External Game Development. As the streaming platform moves deeper into the gaming industry, this move shores up the leadership team that will be responsible for it.
